Artist Bio/Statement
Creating art from wood is both interesting and exciting and I have been privileged to have the opportunity to tell stories through this art form. After retirement from my profession in higher education, I took up an interest in woodturning. I took many classes from master turners and participated in many symposiums to perfect my craft. I have been fortunate to have learned the skills of woodturning from some of the best turners around the globe. I have a particular interest in burls - a deformed, woody growth that appears on trees as an outgrowth. Their small knots and irregular formation are characterized by a unique and swirling grain pattern. I am fascinated by burls and many of my finished pieces use this rare wood formation.
In 2000, I constructed a woodturning studio on our Nebraska farm where I host beginner classes, demonstrations and open shop hours throughout the year. Since 2006, I have been showing my work at various Art Shows throughout the midwest and have worked with many premier galleries. We have three windmills on our farm and named my studio and practice after them - “As the Windmill Turns”.
