Marjorie Moody

Painting is a process of self discovery.  My main concerns in painting are color, mood, rhythm and spontaneity.  Music, nature, dreams and the subconscious all play a part in the formation of my work.  Watercolor and oils are my usual media.  The current body of work is oil & cold wax on Arches oil paper, mostly abstract.  I work intuitively but with intention, playing with combining abstraction and natural spaces.  I strive to suggest rather than depict a scene and/or stir up a memory.   I like mystery and ambiguity in a painting.  Where one viewer might see a scene through a rain streaked window, another experiences a veil of tears.  My work has been influenced by the Abstract Expressionists, Chinese landscape painting and Japanese woodblock prints.
