I grew up in Buffalo, New York, and studied and performed in theater and dance in my youth. I interrupted my college education to travel in Europe and the Mid East; study at the Zen Mediation Center in Rochester, New York; and work in a jewelry shop in Greenwich Village, New York. I moved progressively further into the Midwest to complete college and continue my graduate and professional education, living in St. Paul, Minnesota since 1976.
I am married and have one daughter. For many years my husband and I ran our own consulting business, Educational Law Specialists, Inc., which helped school districts hire Superintendents and offered school law conferences to teachers and administrators.
After our daughter was born, we began spending our summers at our lake cabin in northern Minnesota. The natural beauty of the lakes and forests awakened a desire to paint. It took me several years, however, to wean myself from reading during any free time and instead, to pick up a pencil and begin to draw. Classes, workshops, and individual study have contributed to my growth and development as an artist.
I still work part-time from my home on the publication West's Education Law Reporter , but most days the greater time is spent in painting. During the past year, I have begun to work with acrylics, finding greater freedom to allow my imagination to influence the creative process.
