Laura Tundel’s passion for art began at a very young age. In high school she
showed great talent and won the title of “Most Outstanding Art Student”. She
repeated this award in the more competitive arena of her college career. She
studied at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she would complete her
Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Communication Design. Laura also studied
drawing and painting briefly in Florence, Italy, which became a great influence
on her life and art.
Upon completion of her degree, Laura accepted a position with a local news,
arts, and entertainment publication as a graphic designer. After five years of
work, she decided to leave her job to pursue classical training at the
acclaimed fine art school, The Atelier Lack, which is now The Atelier Studio
Program of Fine Art, located in Northeast Minneapolis. After completing her
studies with
the school, she was invited by its principle artists to become a teacher.
Laura has been commissioned for portraits both in pencil and oil. She
enjoys plein-air painting, but has recently focused her talents on still life
painting for the unique compositional challenges it provides. Her work has
been strongly influenced by many of the great masters such as Caravaggio,
Fantin-Latour, and Chardin. Laura strives to create dramatic lighting and
atmosphere in her paintings in effort to amplify beauty in the objects that
fill our lives. Laura has won several awards for her still life paintings in
juried competitions. Her work is included in both public and private
collections nationwide.
